SPENDING TIME WITH GOD: 12/3/23 (First Sunday of Advent)

From the Gospel according to Mark

MK 13:33-37

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Be watchful! Be alert!

You do not know when the time will come.

It is like a man traveling abroad.

He leaves home and places his servants in charge,

each with his own work,

and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch.

Watch, therefore;

you do not know when the lord of the house is coming,

whether in the evening, or at midnight,

or at cockcrow, or in the morning.

May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping.

What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”

Reflection:

Today is the First Sunday of Advent. This season is devoted to preparation. Other sects are complaining about why we believe that Christ is born every year. The answer to this is that when a person has a birthday, it does not mean that he is reborn each year. The celebration of the birth of Jesus in the world is an important opportunity to ponder on why He came and how much He loves us.

It is important that we feel and reflect continually on this love that the Lord offers us. It is easy to forget this love of God due to the distractions and pleasures that the world offers us even for a moment. This love is silent and does not impose itself. It is full of sacrifice for the beloved.

Jesus came and became a Man even though He was God. Love is the only reason for this. This is the only way for us to enter Heaven because we, sinners, cannot save ourselves.

Because of sin, the originally perfect relationship between God and humanity was broken. The only one who can restore it, and who already did it, is Christ. How about us, what can we give to Him? May we be able to set aside more time for the Lord in prayer. Let's lessen the time that we have for ourselves so that we can give it to God. This will be a huge help to our hearts and souls. Now is also the time to practice charity work towards our neighbors. Even outside of the Christmas season, may we continue doing these activities. Let's give importance to Christ even if it's not the month of December, but we can begin now. May all our actions be acts of thanksgiving to Christ for offering His life for all of us. Amen. +
