TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God Is Beside Us"

Gospel
Mk 12:1-12
Jesus began to speak to the chief priests, the scribes,
and the elders in parables.
"A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it,
dug a wine press, and built a tower.
Then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on a journey.
At the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants
to obtain from them some of the produce of the vineyard.
But they seized him, beat him,
and sent him away empty-handed.
Again he sent them another servant.
And that one they beat over the head and treated shamefully.
He sent yet another whom they killed.
So, too, many others; some they beat, others they killed.
He had one other to send, a beloved son.
He sent him to them last of all, thinking, 'They will respect my son.'
But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
So they seized him and killed him,
and threw him out of the vineyard.
What then will the owner of the vineyard do?
He will come, put the tenants to death,
and give the vineyard to others.
Have you not read this Scripture passage:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?"
They were seeking to arrest him, but they feared the crowd,
for they realized that he had addressed the parable to them.
So they left him and went away.
Reflection
We are called to openness. Blessed Monday in Memorial of Saint Boniface, bishop, and martyr. A locked door will remain closed no matter how many times we knock on it. Many times we have explained our faith to our fellow man. Perhaps, because of this, we have tried to study our faith to answer questions about true faith. Our efforts are important for our faith, yet let us remember that we need to maintain peace in our hearts even if it seems that our work is in vain. Let us remember that only God knows when our efforts are bearing fruit. This is also the case in our daily lives. Perhaps we are trying our best to stay true to our colleagues at home, school, or work. Yet, we might get accused of falsehood. The accusations to us faithful Catholics are of no value if we do it with great faith and compassion. If ever we come across people who try to dissuade our efforts, we can still remain peaceful despite the criticisms we are experiencing or will experience. We can attain peace by letting God stay beside us during our battles. Although God never really left us we must do an effort to talk to Him regularly even during our busiest days. Remember that even before we were persecuted, Christ experienced such persecution first. God Himself was denounced by unbelievers for His effort to share wisdom and truths. As Catholics, we possess the truth we should not be ashamed to share, like Saint Bonafice who is persecuted but has done a great effort to spread Christianity even before his martyrdom. We are called to stand in the truth. Although other people's minds are already closed, let us continue to pray that our spoken words are enough and that God will take charge to soften their hearts.
May we continue to answer against the attacks and misconceptions about our Catholic faith. That way, other people will not be led astray by wrong teachings. In the Name of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen+
