TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God Calls By Name"

June 06, 2023. Tuesday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel

Mk 12:13-17

Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent

to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech.

They came and said to him,

"Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man

and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion.

You do not regard a person's status

but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.

Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?

Should we pay or should we not pay?"

Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them,

"Why are you testing me?

Bring me a denarius to look at."

They brought one to him and he said to them,

"Whose image and inscription is this?"

They replied to him, "Caesar's."

So Jesus said to them,

"Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar

and to God what belongs to God."

They were utterly amazed at him.

Reflection

Come and let us accept God's invitation to remain with Him. Blessed Tuesday of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time. We have probably named the things we own. Remember when our mothers used to write our names on our school supplies so they wouldn't go to others. This is also how our Lord Almighty is with us. Even before we were born, God called us by our name. He made a mark on each of us, a name He can use to call our attention. That's how the Lord loves, even before we are born into the world we are already known by Him. We can know if God is calling us by checking how that voice calls us. When we are called by our sin it is definitely not from God. Because only the devil wants to remember the parts of us that are ugly. As for God, He sees the good parts of our being and He continues to forgive our sins. With our shortcomings, we are still given the opportunity to make up for our shortcomings.

In the Gospel, our Lord Jesus Christ said, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." It means that we belong to God so we should not be separated from Him. And even if we choose to depart from God, we can be assured He is faithfully waiting. Let us not waste the chance to serve Him.

May we turn away from the voice that calls us through our sins. Let's cast out this ugly voice, in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God. Amen+
