TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "Union With Christ"
May 03, 2023. Feast of Saints Philip and James, Apostles
Gospel
Jesus said to Thomas, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him."
Philip said to him,
"Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it."
Reflection
May we become one with God. Blessed Wednesday of the Feast of Saints Philip and James, Apostles. The things and riches we can acquire on earth could serve as an emblem of great statute in the eyes of those in our society. At the same time, we may be tempted to compare our situation from those who seem to have what we desire in life. Todays readings reminded us that it is easy to achieve things that God permits us to have. God allows us to experience abundance and poverty to test how we can still serve despite our life situations. Some people would say that they could serve God once they get rich. However, those who have riches would often make God wait because they thought they don't have much time to spare. And that they will serve God only once they are more available. On the other hand, there is someone out there living a hidden life in poverty. Someone out there strives to go to Church daily despite the hurdles in life. This man knows he is poor in the eyes of his society. Therefore he strives to be with Christ because her knows that the only treasure he has in life is the name of Jesus Christ engraved in his heart.
May God be with us in every events of our lives. Let us take small opportunities in life to keep Jesus in our hearts.
