TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God Empowered Servants"
May 21, 2023. Seventh Sunday of Easter - Ascension
Gospel
Jn 10, 1-10
The eleven disciples went to Galilee,
to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
Then Jesus approached and said to them,
“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
Reflection
Let us make ourselves worthy of serving God. Blessed Seventh Sunday of Easter. Today we are celebrating the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ ascended back to the Kingdom of God the Father in order for us to have the Holy Spirit as a companion. Let us recall ourselves as infants who can't even walk, eventually, our parents would need to let our hands go. This does not mean that our parents don't care if we fall on the ground. They still accompanied us but with lesser aid until we learned to walk on our own. Our muscle memory requires discipline to get strong and our parents know that we need that in order for us to finally walk. This is the same answer to the question, why did Christ choose to leave us? First, we must know that not everyone who leaves stays behind and never goes back. Sometimes it requires leaving to test the spirit of those who are left. When a strong one leaves, that means the weaker ones are required to find strength in them and recall the lessons taught to them by the stronger ones. Christ is our strength and although He ascended, we have the Holy Spirit as our companion. Since the Holy Spirit is not in human form as Christ does when He came down from Heaven, our faith is tested to believe the unseen. We are challenged to reflect on the invisible presence of God in our daily lives. By doing this, Christ gives us an opportunity to get past purgatory and get more purified on earth as we continue to meditate and contemplate the presence of God. Let us welcome the Holy Spirit as our compansion so that we may be able to pass on this gift of God's salvation to others.
May we overcome our doubts about our abilities and talents. We can empower our missions through obedience to Christ. In the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen+
