TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God's Greatest Commands"
TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God's Greatest Commands"
June 08, 2023. Thursday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel
Mk 12:28-34
One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
"Which is the first of all the commandments?"
Jesus replied, "The first is this:
Hear, O Israel!
The Lord our God is Lord alone!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, with all your mind,
and with all your strength.
The second is this:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these."
The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher.
You are right in saying,
He is One and there is no other than he.
And to love him with all your heart,
with all your understanding,
with all your strength,
and to love your neighbor as yourself
is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding,
he said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God."
And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Reflection
Come, let us love ourselves the way we treat and love others. Blessed Thursday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time. We've learned to love ever since birth. Our conscious love for the people around us shaped us. Although love and care for us are not perfect, let's remember that any semblance of spring of love comes from God. In today's Gospel, we are reminded of the two most important commandments of God. First, God the Father said, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength," while Jesus added, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Many other religious sects would say, we do not need to work for our salvation to be saved. As long as we accept the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts, our souls will be safe. However, this is contrary to Christ's command to love others as we love ourselves. Because, a person who loves knows how to act and works to spread love. The person who obeys this law will certainly not be far from the Kingdom of God.
May we learn to take care of ourselves, by taking care of ourselves we will see more of the same love we should give to our neighbor. Let us never stop understanding the value of loving others in need. It can only start if we take care of ourselves, if we bring ourselves closer to God, we will surely see the value of bringing other people closer to our Lord. In the Name of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen+
