TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "Seek God's Pruning"
TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "Seek God's Pruning"
May 10, 2023. Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Easter
Gospel
Jn 15:1-8
Jesus said to his disciples:
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
Remain in me, as I remain in you.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own
unless it remains on the vine,
so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire
and they will be burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples."
Reflection
Be fruitful as we learn the Good News of the Lord. Blessed Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Easter. Being playful is innate to a child. Our enthusiasm during our youth often needs attention and guidance from our elders. Their goal is not only to feed us but to check on our growing habits. If they notice that we are harboring bad habits, elders are often quick to correct us. We may not understand the process of discipline. but it starts to make sense as we grow older. We finally understood that discipline in our youth is the preparation of our parents or guardians to make us equipt for the challenges we have to face in the real world. We have to experience the same thing when it comes to our spiritual life. Our Lord Jesus Christ reminded us that we need to go through the process of pruning. We know the Lord is the vine and we are the branches. In the process of pruning, some parts of the branches are removed to give room for more fruits to grow. This is how God wants us to become, to be fruitful, that we must learn to expose to God the bad parts of ourselves, so that He may prune and allow us to be fruitful. Let us remember that everything comes from God, He knows we need pruning before we even seek for it.
Let us pray that we may discover the things we need to surrender to God, our past, our weaknesses, our fears, our doubts, and more. May the Lord Jesus Christ cover us with the protection of His Most Precious Blood.
In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen+
