TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God's Garden Flourishes"
May 26, 2023. Memorial of Saint Philip Neri, Priest
Gospel
Jn 21:15-19
After Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and eaten breakfast with them,
he said to Simon Peter,
"Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?"
Simon Peter answered him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you."
Jesus said to him, "Feed my lambs."
He then said to Simon Peter a second time,
"Simon, son of John, do you love me?"
Simon Peter answered him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you."
He said to him, "Tend my sheep."
He said to him the third time,
"Simon, son of John, do you love me?"
Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,
"Do you love me?" and he said to him,
"Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you."
Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.
Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger,
you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted;
but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands,
and someone else will dress you
and lead you where you do not want to go."
He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.
And when he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me."
Reflection
Come to the garden flourishing with love. Blessed Friday of the Memorial of Saint Philip Neri, Priest. The only way to know if the gardener is skilled is by going near his garden and observing the condition of his plants. A good gardener is sure to have blooming crops. The gardener is like the Lord, the blooming plants of the garden are His love for humanity, and we are the person who tries to peek and see the condition of the garden. We can only know how perfect the love of God is for us if we strive to get near Him. Thus, we can only know that the gardener is good if we can take a peek and see the inside of his garden. When we become close to the Lord Jesus Christ, it means that we often experience His love even in ordinary ways. Sometimes we may suddenly remember something that would have endangered us, but God made a way to protect us unnoticed. This is how God loves, in silence it is felt. And when we always experience the love of God even in small bits and pieces, it accumulates in our hearts and that's when our understanding becomes formed and makes us learn how perfect and flourishing the Lord's garden of love for us is.
May we let God's love flourish in our hearts. So that when other people tried to look into our hearts, they will find nothing but our Lord Jesus Christ. In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen+
