TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "God's Continual Presence"

May 16, 2023. Tuesday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Gospel

Jn 16:5-11
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Now I am going to the one who sent me,
and not one of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'
But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes he will convict the world
in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
sin, because they do not believe in me;
righteousness, because I am going to the Father
and you will no longer see me;
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned."

Reflection
Let our faith in God live forever. Tuesday of the Sixth Week of Easter. There once was a teacher who used to leave his students unattended as they were taking their examinations. The teacher comes back once the examination time is up. This teacher never bothers to know how her students behave as they were taking their exams. We might think that this teacher is neglectful but this is actually done for a good reason. The teacher is doing this to make the students realize that they can be honest without his presence in the classroom. Leaving his students does not mean his license as a teacher is away. His authority to teach remains, yet he wants to let his students take the exams unattended to challenge them of their choices. This is the message of the Gospel today. Though God does not want us to stumble, we are left by Jesus the Holy Spirit in order to challenge us on how much intentional we could be in following God's trail. Before the teacher in the story left his students, he made sure that they are given the knowledge they can use to pass the examination. Catechism is passed on for many centuries to us Catholics. Jesus Christ came down from Heaven in order to leave us His words. And as He ascended into Heaven, we are given the Holy Spirit. The Holy Paraclete led the Apostles to continue what Our Lord Jesus Christ started. This is how God shows His love towards us, that He never leaves us. God made Himself the sacrificial lamb, He sent the Holy Spirit to guide us, and Jesus awaits us in every Tabernacle to receive His flesh and blood.

In every second of our lives, may we appreciate the continuous effort of God to be present in our lives. In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen+
