TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "Christ's Joyful Promise"

TODAY'S GOSPEL REFLECTION: "Christ's Joyful Promise"

May 19, 2023. Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Gospel

Jn 16:20-23
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn,
while the world rejoices;
you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.
When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;
but when she has given birth to a child,
she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy
that a child has been born into the world.
So you also are now in anguish.
But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,
and no one will take your joy away from you.
On that day you will not question me about anything.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.”

Reflection
Blessed are those who listen and shares the Word of God. Blessed Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter. The teaching from our parents and teachers only becomes effective when we learn to follow their good commands. As we get older, we carry the values that we can pass on to younger generations. However, we must also understand that it requires us to speak in order to guide effectively those who are young. Sometimes, actions require speaking our intentions in order for others to grow in virtue. But it must be done with flaming compassion. This is the message of the readings today. Saint Paul hesitated to spend time preaching in a dangerous town. Yet, God assured him that he will be protected as long as God is beside him. Saint Paul stayed for a year preaching before he decided to sail away for his safety. In the present time, sometimes we become like Saint Paul when our voices needed to be heard but lies are prevalent in our society. We are called to speak when the innocents are victimized. The Gospel for today reminded us that the world may rejoice now but it won't last because the source of their joy is coming from temporary pleasures of the world. But Our Lord Jesus Christ made a promise that after our suffering in this imperfect world, He will welcome us in His Kingdom where there will be no memories of pain and suffering. Let us long for that to happen and let us never give up when our faith is tested. Let us hold on to the word of God. For those who believe, no explanation is needed. Let us believe that God won't break His promise.

Let us pray for those who are blinded by worldly pleasure. May God grant us the strength to persevere in faith. Let us make use of our tongues for the greater glory of God. In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen+
