Blessed Monday! When our Lord Jesus approached Jericho, there was a blind man who called upon Him. Even though he was silenced by the people, the blind man still persevered in calling upon to Jesus. Because of his faith, he was healed by our Lord. Although what we've seen is about physical blindness, we can also learn what this gospel reading teaches about spiritual blindness. We become spiritually blind when we no longer see that our sins are wrong, especially as we fall to the temptations of the devil or as we become influenced by the sinful ways of other people. For example, some people justify their pride, the use of God's name in vain, and many more. At the same time, spiritual blindness can also be manifested in the lives of those who are praying and doing good works solely out of habit instead of doing these things with devotion and love to God. Despite the fact that we may have been spiritually blind in the past, God is still patient with us. This is why Jesus is reminding us to imitate the faith of the blind beggar for us to be healed from our spiritual blindness.

Why did the blind person keep calling to Jesus Christ? It's because he had faith. He believed in the mercy and goodness of Jesus. Sometimes, when we fall to sins, we may dwell on them to the point of doubting God's love for us. As we see in the gospel reading, it's not a coincidence that Jesus comes to the Jericho. He really intended to heal the blind man. We are also being asked by our Lord as to what we truly want. May we honestly tell Him our faults and our desire to love Him and to do His will. True faith is seen in our works. The blind man did not listen to the crowd who was silencing him. God invites us to have deeper faith in Him in such a way that we will always choose not to follow the worldly ways no matter how much the people want to silence us. This is a sign that we really want our eyes to be open, and by God's grace, we will be able to walk towards the path to eternal life and to glorify Him throughout our lives.

Amen +

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, be with us always until the hour of our death. Amen. +

May the Lord + bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. +
