LOVING GOD EVERY MOMENT - 10/19/22 (Wednesday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time)

Luke 12:39-40
Jesus said to his disciples: “Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

Blessed Wednesday! If the owner of the house knows the hour that the thief will come, he will be able to guard his house. In our spiritual life, we really do not know the specific hour that the Lord will come. This means that God is calling us to be prepared at any time. This coming of Jesus is not just limited to the second coming of Christ. It also pertains to the time of our death. Our Lord Jesus is reminding us to deepen our relationship with Him every day so that we can be prepared for the time that we will face God one day. Because of the eternal life that is awaiting us in heaven, we should seek to love God at every moment.

However, when we see the presence of God in our lives, there may be a tendency for us to be lax and to no longer persevere in our faith. For example, one person may accept the invitation of Christ to go to the sacrament of confession and to the Mass. But, there is a temptation to think that we are already good, and because of this, we will no longer fall to the same sins. Even after many graces from God, we cannot deny the negative influences and occasions of sins around us. Some people may go back to their worldly lifestyle such as going to many parties, being drunk, enjoying and many more. The more that we are given graces from God, the more we should be responsible, and even if we fall, it's an opportunity to stand up with God. To avoid relapsing to our previous sins, it's important for us to reflect on how offensive our sins are to God. By always remembering our sins, we can grow in humility and have a real hope of entering the Kingdom of heaven.

We cannot know the hour of our death. But, what we know is that God is worthy of our love at every moment of our lives. Our Lord always knocks in the doors of our hearts because He wants us to be united with Him. If we have lived a worldly lifestyle, let's remember that God is inviting us to abandon this lifestyle and give ourselves totally to Him. How much time do we give to our prayers and to reflection on God's Word? Do we have confidence that God reveals Himself to us, not just through the Scriptures, but also through the Catholic Church? If we desire to love God for eternity, we should start now by loving God every moment. Let's stay awake and remain on guard against temptations because God is always with us, and there will be a time that we will see Him either as a Merciful Savior or a Righteous Judge.

Amen +

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, be with us always until the hour of our death. Amen. +

May the Lord + bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. +
