WHEN GOD EXALTED OUR HUMBLE MOTHER - 8/15/22 (Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary)

Blessed Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Today, we are celebrating and remembering this glorious event when our Mother Mary is taken, both body and soul, by God into heaven. Her bodily assumption is the reward for the holiness of Mary. God created her pure, starting from the moment of her conception, in such a way that she was conceived without any stain of original sin. Because of God's graces, she lived a life that's perfectly united to His will. Her body did not undergo corruption unlike what everyone would experience because we were conceived with a fallen human nature. The bodily assumption of our dear Mother gives us hope of our rewards in heaven and our resurrection. But, we may wonder. How can we have hope of being raised from the dead and being united with our bodies for eternity if we are far from the holiness of Mary? How can her life be applicable to us? The truth is that she is the perfect model for us, and there are at least two things that God wants us to learn out of this glorious event in the life of Mary.

First, she is our humble Mother. This means that we should look up to her for us to persevere in our spiritual journey, especially in the virtue of humility which is the foundation of all virtues. It's true that her bodily assumption was the reward for her complete fidelity to God and for her holiness that she never committed any sin. At the same time, she was able to be united with God's will because of God's strength and grace. We can see this in the gospel reading where our Lord is proclaimed as her Savior. She was saved from the moment of conception until the end of her bodily life. She was saved by not allowing her to fall to sins. This is why she's full of grace, as we pray in the rosary. She did not have any stain of sin because she was filled by God of graces and perfection in virtues. If our sinless Mother humbly acknowledged the mercy of God, then we should humble ourselves even more because we are sinners who are truly in need of His mercy and strength. The Blessed Virgin Mary is teaching us to be humble by depending on God always for us to persevere in holiness. 

Second, God took her to heaven for us to have a powerful intercessor in heaven. God is merciful, and He desires for us to overcome the temptations in this world. And yet, God knows that we are weak on our own to come to Him. This is why God wills for us to have a Queen in heaven who is also our Mother. Our Lord Jesus cannot reject the request of His Own Mother. This is why we can (and should) ask help from our Mother Mary, especially during the times we are temptes by the devil to commit sins. Everyone of is experiences temptations, whether it's pride, anger, lust and many more. We can also experience diabolical attacks where our minds just seem to be full of inappropriate images. We need supernatural help, and we have confidence in the powerful intercession of Mary because of her maternal love for us. Below, there is a testimony of how a man's life was radically transformed through Mary and the rosary which freed him from many sins, including the sin of lust. At the moment of temptations, let's run towards our Mother who understands our weakness and who offers our intentions to our Lord Jesus. By constantly praying the "Hail Mary '' prayer, especially during the moments of temptations, we will be focused and dedicated in our final goal to enter heaven and come to share in the glory of our Mother and Queen, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
