REFLECTIONS ON THE WORD – 11/28/21 (Sunday)

Blessed First Sunday of Advent! This Sunday signifies hope which represents the anticipation of the people to the coming of the Messiah. As Christians, we believe that He has already come, for Jesus was born to save us from our sins. We are called by God as revealed in the gospel reading to anticipate and prepare for His Second Coming.

As Jesus said to the disciples, people will be frightened of His Coming. But, why should they be? We can be frightened when we acknowledge that we do not use the time He has given us in order to deepen our relationship with Him. Rather than spending more time with the Lord through prayer and reflections, we spend our excess time with the worldly things such as social media, gadgets, drinks, and others for our own satisfaction. Rather than believing the teachings of Catholic Church and being a witness, we scandalize our neighbors away from our Savior. What should we do to truly prepare our hearts for our Lord?

We need to give our full trust and confidence in the mercy of our God. Apart from Christ, we are nothing. This is why Jesus is instructing us to always pray that we may have the strength. Even if we have already given ourselves to Christ, He still calls us to be vigilant because we cannot think highly of ourselves as if it's by our own power that we can do good. Only God is capable of granting us the grace to love Him and our neighbors. As we acknowledge the sins that we have committed, let us reflect on the temptations we have encountered, so we may be able to resist them. Let us pray to Jesus that He may strengthen us to fulfill our resolutions, most especially as we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent, and let us seek the grace of holy perseverance through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen +

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, be with us always until the hour of our death. Amen. +

Mary God bless us and may He grant us hope and confidence in His Mercy. Amen. +
